May 18, 2020 Callaway County COVID-19 Update

The Callaway County Health Department has no new positive COVID 19 cases to report at this time. There are currently 22 cases, with 20 recovered, one active and one death.
As news comes out today about two of our neighboring counties picking up positive COVID-19 cases, it bears witness that this virus is still in our midst. Callaway County has not received notification of any new positive COVID-19 cases since May 1, 2020. This is great news, but things can change overnight as it has for Audrain and Boone counties. Our biggest concern is for the citizens of our county that are immune compromised in some way. If an asymptomatic person who is carrying the virus comes in contact with these folks, this could become a life or death situation. Asymptomatic carriers may never have any of the symptoms associated with COVID-19 but still shed the virus. By total accident someone can spread the virus and not be aware of it. This is where the danger lies. We press the message of social distancing for a reason. This is exactly why. PLEASE SOCIAL DISTANCE. IF NOT FOR YOU, FOR SOMEONE YOU MAY NOT EVEN KNOW.
If you have a business or church and have questions on reopening and distancing, please call the Callaway County Health Department. We will come to your site or answer any questions we can over the phone.
