June 1, 2020 Callaway County COVID-19 Update

The Callaway County Health Department has one new positive COVID-19 cases to report at this time. There are currently 29 cases, with 20 recovered, eight active and one death.
Since Friday afternoon, Callaway County has received three additional positive cases of COVID-19. Testing has expanded with the Arthur Center in Mexico offering free testing to those individuals who wish to be tested. Local testing is also increasing. This will mean additional cases will be found. This also means that COVID-19 is still amongst us. This virus can be shed by asymptomatic people who have no idea that they may be carriers. The additional testing will only uncover the fact that we still have issues with COVID-19. This is why masks and social distancing are so important. Please take this fact into consideration as you are making plans for gathering with friends and family. You may feel fine, but you may be asymptomatic. You don’t have to have participated in some of the recent Memorial Day events where social distancing was dis regarded. Contact with a single person who is shedding the virus is all it takes to infect you. Thank you and be smart, state six feet apart.
If you have a business or church and have questions on reopening and distancing, please call the Callaway County Health Department. We will come to your site or answer any questions we can over the phone.
